1,500 Ways To Finding The Perfect Dildo

the dildo database hero

This article is about why and how we set out to benchmark us against the vast amount of dildos available. Something which extended into a still growing database of over 1,500 dildos.

Finding the right dildo size...

Human body standards have been measured and accumulated since the beginning of science. Huge amounts of collected data regarding our length and width. Data which some manufacturers in modern times have been using to adapt products befitting most of the population as "one-size-fits-all". Whether it be a hat, a pair of gloves or a stretchy pair of pants.

When it comes to data regarding the size of a penis, any measures are answering two things actually: The size variation for a condom and the very common Internet query, "Is my penis normal?".

But, for us, the question was more about, “what is the average dildo size?".

As our new silicone dildo can be adapted by each and every user to fit them as they please, it still needed an “original size”. Something that ultimately could cater to the largest possible range of varieties.

To find the answer, we indulged in a research and report from consumer data of +1,500 dildos. The research also answers to requirements which came with the early start-up funding we received from the Swedish Government.

From the data, we were also able to pull out information regarding pricing and materials. And will, therefore, be presenting more information as time goes by.

Dildos, dildos everywhere

Challenge 1: What to look for?

There is a big challenge when researching and building a database of this kind, as there is no easy nor complete access to data.

The largest retailers hold some 300-400 dildos stocked. And, there is no known manufacturer producing such a wide array of sizes, lengths, shapes, and materials. To accumulate the accurate data we set up the following criteria:

  • Sales based chiefly on online presence
  • A lot of sold products
  • Including a function for reviews
  • Including information about dimensions and material

This led to hours and hours spent to manually, page after page, analyzing the larger online markets where dildos are sold.

Challenge 2: Dispersed information

With a vast amount of dildos (assumed to be in the amount of 12-15,000 in total on the markets surveyed), there is a lot of data to cover. As such, our +1,500 database upholds statistical strength.

However, gathering that data was a feat, since we were working in front-end (listed and spread information). I.e you must first scan the listed products on one page, and then scan the product page for the information needed.

Challenge 3: Avoiding duplicates

Another issue with the front-end environment was the updates, as products are added and removed. This was, however, a minor feat which we quickly solved by doing a copy of the front end information. Thus, we were able to work with it offline.

Crunching the dildo data

To effectively make use of the overall data, we had to make corrections. Why we worked according to the following basic theses:

THESIS 1.

If a product is available for purchase, there is a chance it has been deemed worthy to be sold or someone have bought it earlier

THESIS 2.

If the product also has a review to it, and with faith in the review systematics, it is a 100% chance that the product has been sold at least once

THESIS 3.

Assuming thesis 2 is true then the number of reviews on a product are greater or equal to the number of times it has been purchased

EXCEPTIONS

More corrections to the database were later done by removing the following:

  • Removing dildos that did not contain enough data in the manufacturer's description
  • dildos made of glass or metal which were of such design deeming them impossible to compare to any other type or design (however saved for future analysis)
  • dildos that were too deviant to fit into an investigation of this kind, like the horse dong (also saved for future analysis)

We did it!

All in all, we ended up with well over 1,500 relevant and comparable dildos.

The dildos that were put aside are still interesting. Out of reasons less connected to dildo size or shape but to the materials used, prices and more. And we look forward to sharing more interesting facts through text and thoughts, images and infographics.

And our own shape-changing dildo size? It ended up at an original length of 5.9 inches and a 1.57-inch girth.
