The Dodil » Instructions: Make Your Own Dildo

Make your own dildo.

Time and time again.

Make your own dildo whenever you want and as many times as you like with the Dodil. And that particular recipe to creating your personal design is some hot water and this silicone dildo. There are no need for a dildo mold, no mixtures or clones to copy. Every dildo you make becomes a true original.

Follow these simple steps to make your own dildo. Even the road to creation is for you to decide.

1. Heat your Dodil

As you heat the Dodil in hot water it becomes malleable. Let it bathe in the thermos (included in the complete kit) or in a pot or pan at low temperature.

Heated for 30 minutes will make the whole dildo become moldable, all the way to the core.

However, 15 minutes is often enough. Since, unless you are making a large curve or bend, you don't need the whole dildo to be moldable. This will make about 50% of the dildo become soft, from the outside and in.

Left to simmer in a pot or pan works just as well!

2. Shape it with your hands

You have about 10 minutes to knead or squeeze the Dodil.

Zap it with cold water (does not have to be freezing) and have the whole dildo set (become rigid) within 1-2 minutes, or splash a section to still keep part of the dildo moldable.

Pro tip: Do not just hold the dildo when cooling it under water. Turn, squeeze or stroke it instead (depends what you are making), this will make it set faster and it gives you better control and feel of what the Dodil is to become.

Cool the dildo off under or in cold water and it will set in that design.

3. Or use the string

Or, make your own dildo by tying the string either at the top, the handle or anywhere on the Dodil. Then turn the dildo to create ripples, bulges and more. Again, finish with a quick rinse or dip it in cold water.

Pro tip: Trying to wrap the string when making texture can be a bit tricky the first time you try. Instead, it's better to spin (or turn) the Dodil, this will give you more control of where and how deep ripples or ridges you get.

FAQ - Make your own dildo

How does the dildo become moldable?

On the inside of the Dodil there is a heat sensitive thermoplastic (completely safe and non-toxic) which reacts to temperatures above 160 degrees Fahrenheit (~60 degrees Celsius).

So, when bathed in hot water water the dildo will slowly become moldable and ready to be your very own fantasy dildo.

Won't the dildo be burning hot?

The temperature on the outside silicone drops incredibly fast once removed from the warm water and is below scalding temperature. The silicone simply helps isolate the warmth.

Though, we all respond differently to hot and cold. So we advice to make sure you can handle the warmth and either pour out some of the hot water or replacing it with colder water before picking up the dildo or starting to handle it.

How does the Dodil "stay in shape"?

The inside dildo material will slowly set into the shape of a dildo you created, as it drops in temperature. In room temperature this takes about 10 minutes.

If you are not done, and the dildo starts to set and become hard - stop shaping and reheat it - all it needs is 2-3 minutes to become fully moldable again.

If you want to speed up your dildo making session, just rinse or leave the dildo in colder water (not ice cold). This will have the dildo become firm within just 1-2 minutes.

How cold water does it need for the dildo to set?

Not that cold actually.

We don't want your fingers to go numb. In the videos we have a temperature of about 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit (22-25 degrees Celsius).

A lower temperature will make the dildo turn firm slightly faster (barely noticeable). Instead, it's how long you rinse it that impacts the most.

How long time does it take to make your own dildo?

It all depends on how much time you want to spend to make your own dildo.

For small changes to a dildo, like adding a ripple or texture, the Dodil only needs 10-15 minutes in the hot water for the outside section to become moldable.

Or if you want to alter length or curve in your dildo, you go for the full 30 minutes.

Some people enjoy the full flexibility of the dildo when it's warm and it makes for great fun and a playful foreplay, alone or as a couple.

DETAILED TIMETABLE

Heated to become completely moldable (to the core): up to 30 minutes

Heated to become partially moldable (leaving a curve or bend intact): 10-15 minutes

Moldable state before it cools: ~10 minutes

Cooled under or in cold water: ~1-2 minutes

Note: If you feel that the result is not what you wanted after cooling the dildo, all it takes is 2-3 minutes in hot water to make the dildo moldable again. This is since it still holds a core warmth.

Is it difficult to create a dildo design?

Nope.

In fact, most of our customers and reviewers claim to have nailed their perfect dildo in 1-3 tries. Either you stay with that creation, forever or for now, as you later try something new.

Most importantly, if you are a beginner in what size and design you want in a dildo, you might want to experiment some.

The Dodil is made to be playful and is a way to explore and try different dildos until you find what works best for you.

My dildo retracts when I try to shape it!

The outside silicone will always strive to maintain its original dimension, so you either have to hold or bind it in the design you want it to become. Or you can cool it in sections as shown in some of our videos, check out the video for how to make the Dodil longer as an example.

Also, you can cool your dildo really quick (a few seconds in cold water). This way the core material becomes less liquid or 'runny', however this will also reduce the time the dildo stays malleable.

Should the dildo become too firm when cooling, simply warm it again for a minute or two.

Is there a risk of the dildo 'melting' when I use it?

Relax, you can take a steaming hot bath with your dildo since the reactive temperature for the inside thermoplastic to 'melt' is about ~60 degrees Celsius or ~160 degrees Fahrenheit.

No matter how hot you are, you won't melt it.

Is there a risk of breaking the Dodil?

If you use and take care of your dildo as stated in the included manual, here on the website or through any of our videos, you will be fine.

Applying brute force to try and deform the dildo in a solid state will not break it. You could however damage the silicone cover, so just don't.

We also recommend using the included cord for a smooth experience. Read the instructions about what to think of while shaping (basically, it's common sense).

Is there a risk of damaging the silicone?

The covering layer of silicone is very flexible and durable. However, there are some limitations and common sense to how to treat the Dodil.

  • Do not stretch or pull the silicone by force.
  • And do not hit or drag the dildo against anything with a hard or sharp edge.
  • And finally, should the dildo start to turn hard before you are done shaping, simply stop and reheat it for a moment (2-3 minutes) to get it moldable again.

Following these instructions you can make your dildo into a plethora of different sex toy designs as you alter the shape and size of the Dodil to something that fits, perfectly. And you can do that as often as you wish, all thanks to the fantastic combination of materials in the Dodil.
